Fine Furniture Maker
Classical Australian Red Cedar

Peter Gibbs was born in Newcastle in 1953. For the greater part of his working life he has been carrying on a Hunter Valley tradition of bespoke furniture making that goes back to early colonial days when Red Cedar grew plentifully in the area.

This one man tradition of selection, milling and seasoning of timber coupled with meticulous and uncompromising classical craftsmanship is a process that is virtually extinct.

Old though this system may be, it allows the client to consult directly with the maker to produce a one-off piece which can be passed down through future generations.

In the Hunter Valley, close to the supply of Cedar, Peter became well known and built furniture not only for Australian clients but also for those overseas. His pieces have found their way to the United States, Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 2010 he relocated and built a new workshop in the historic Scenic Hills between Campbelltown and Camden within easy reach of Sydney, the Southern Highlands and the Blue Mountains.
